About A/Prof Mark Erian - Senior Consultant Obstetrician & Gynaecologist

A/Professor Mark Erian has extensive experience in intensive labour ward management, particularly in both spontaneous, induced labour and high risk pregnancy in labour.  He has extenisve experience in managing a very busy gynaecological unit and performs all major elective gynaecological surgical procedures, including abdominal and vaginal hysterectomy, myomectomy, vaginal repairs and genital prolapse operations.

His interest in the use of a variety of endoscopic operative techniques, including hysteroscopy, cystoscopy and minimally invasive laparoscopic surgery, has broadened his interest in gynaecological surgery.  He pioneered the introduction of large surgical series of laparoscopic ultrasonically-activated scalpel in different endoscopic operations as well as a reasonable series of laparoscopic hysterectomy and myomectomy.

He is a life member of the Medico-Legal Society of Queensland, The Australian Medical Association, founding member of the Australian Society of Gynaecological Endoscopy and is an active member on many committees.

Since 1996 he has been on the list of expert witnesses at the University of Queensland. He is available for media, health and legal fraternities, to give evidence-based opinions on different clinical and legal issues.  Mark is heavily involved in the medico-legal peer review processes in Queensland other states. He is involved in ad-hoc appointments as an expert witness to the Supreme Court and Brisbane Coroner.

He is an active member in the community and has a special interest in multicultural health policies. Mark’s name appears on the list of advisers for the Prime Minister on multicultural affairs. He has done much media work including television appears for this work.
