High risk Obstetrics
A/Prof Mark Erian has many years of experience in full range of intensive labour ward management. He is well versed in managing high risk pregnancy in labour and management of both spontaneous and induced labour.
Throughout A/Prof Mark Erian’s experiences in the UK and Australia, he has successfully used both the vacuum extractor and Kielland’s forceps for rotational vaginal deliveries. He is experienced in management of both breech and twin pregnancies in labour. He is able to perform internal podalic version and breech extraction of the second twin, should circumstances warrant such intervention. He is experienced in performing both classical and lower segment caesarean section for a wide range of clinical indications.
He can also manage a full spectrum of obstetric complications including severe pre-eclampsia, disseminated intravascular coagulation and severe postpartum haemorrhage.
A/Prof Mark Erian is able to perform Caesarean hysterectomy and internal iliac artery ligation to arrest life-threatening haemorrhage.
Real-time scanner for investigation of early and late pregnancy complications are also available to patients.
General Gynaecology with Specialist interest in advanced laparoscopic and hysteroscopic surgery.
A/Prof Mark Erian performs all the major elective gynaecological surgical procedures, including abdominal and vaginal hysterectomy,myomectomy and vaginal repairs.
He has extensive experiences in grave emergency gynaecological surgery including laparoscopy for ruptured ectopic pregnancy and other adnexal and appendix conditions.

Because of his knowledge in this specialist field, A/Prof Mark Erian is an accrediated trainee in advanced endoscopic gynaecological surgery. He regularly lectures in the USA in advanced hysteroscopic surgery and has published numerous papers. A/Prof Erian has been actively involved in the teaching of trainees, fellows, undergraduate & post graduate trainees in advanced laparoscopic procedures both in Australia and the USA.
Medico Legal consultant in legal cases in Obstetric and Gynaecology
He is a life member of the Medico-Legal Society of Queensland, The Australian Medical Association, founding member of the Australian Society of Gynaecological Endoscopy and is an active member in many national and international societies.
Since 1996 he has been on the list of expert witnesses at the University of Queensland. He is available for media, health and legal fraternities to give evidence based opinions on different clinical and legal issues. Mark is heavily involved in the medico-legal peer review process in Australia to both Australian and international level. He is involved in ad hoc appointments as an expert witness to the Supreme Court in Queensland and other states of Australia.
